Harvard is where we did one of our more stubborn leaking-chimney rebuilds. The homeowner had already paid two other companies to "fix" it, and it kept leaking through every hard rain. The real problem turned out to be missing pan flashing — the chimney had to come down to the roofline and get rebuilt with a proper soldered copper pan turned in at the flues. No more leaks since. It's a good example of why a surface patch or a sealer coat rarely solves a chimney leak that's actually coming from inside the brickwork.

A lot of Harvard's older homes, especially near the town common and out toward the apple orchards, have center chimneys built the old way — which means when something goes wrong, it's often worth doing right rather than patching again.
